The first and foremost reason why people change their careers is the opportunity offered by the alternative job seen. The most obvious reason is the salary which is seconded by the opportunity when it comes to professional growth. Whatever your line of expertise, I am sure, you will choose the job that offers professional growth.
But most of us do not see such professional growth unless we will have the chance to work in that institution first. Well, this should not be the case as you can have a birds eye view in a certain company or institution where you have a friend or relative working in that institution. You can ask then, of course, the nature of the job, how old most the employees working there, and the likes. Do not ask about salary as you will not be given exact answer for this.
There are other factors too for you to see if there is a possible career advancement on a certain institution. I guess, you can determine the capability or the status of such company you are planning to seek alternative job. These are companies that are already there and had been in the business for a long time already. Example of this companies are those which are able to go with the recent recession.
I don’t need to name names here as I know you have in your own mind a company who had survived that huge tidal wave in the business sector and still these companies seem nothing had happened to them as they had recovered already for sure. This are concrete example of companies who are now considered institution because of their contribution not only in the business sector but most importantly their service had reached the real market that made them still existing even these days and surely, these companiess will still exist for the couple of decades or even more.
If you are searching for alternative career, I would like to suggest you scout these types of companies first. I am sure there is always a place for a teacher in these companies/institutions. Of course, better yet if you will have the chance to get another job in the government as government jobs are the most stable among those careers you are eying. Do not just shift until you are decided and seen possible career growth as there are also obstacles along the way of these alternative jobs.
